Rathfarnham thrived as a 9 holes golf course from its foundation until its Centenary Year in 1999.

Developments during the succeeding years increasing the course to 15 holes moved the Club a long way forward towards achieving its objective of having an 18 holes course. 2014 will go down in history as a momentous year in which the final steps were put in place to have 18 holes in play in 2015.

Work on 3 new holes commenced on 1 July 2014 and was completed very successfully by the end of August 2014. It was decided at the time that there were significant advantages in redeveloping holes 8, 9 and 10 while the contractors were on site rather that doing this work as a new project in a future year.

All 6 new and redeveloped holes opened for play on 1 June 2015 and feedback on the design and conditioning of the holes has been excellent.

A formal launch day took place on 7 August with Des Smyth (former Ryder Cup Vice-Captain) and Hazel Kavanagh (PGA Professional) playing an exhibition match over 7 holes. Greg Allen (RTE) hosted the event and Members were treated to a great day's golf.
